SOLUTION STORYBOARD TEST

(tool)

Brief description

Design simple illustrations (drawings or images) arranged in scenes that describe a user experience or interaction with your solution. Present it to get feedback on how potential users would experience your solution or a specific topic related to your solution.

Quick Guide

  • Identify and determine which topic you want to get more information from your solution.

  • According to the theme, identify your user segment and an experience to represent where your solution will be used.

  • Write a story script. Consider scenarios, characters, the problem and the solution.

  • Describes in detail the user’s experience with the solution.  It can be one interaction or the entire experience.

  • Identify and select 4 to 6 key moments in the story that have sequence.

  • Draw quick sketches (drawings accompanied by dialogue or thoughts) of selected key moments.

  • Share and review your storyboard with key people and potential users; use a small (2 to 5) and diverse group.

  • Use questions to get feedback and get their opinions or comments on the topic of interest.

  • Review your feedback notes and make modifications to your storyboard.

Benefits

  • It allows you to obtain information about different elements of your solution: value proposition, solve the pain and/or opportunity.
  • It helps you validate whether your solution or concept actually fits the users’ world (interactions, relationship, flow and decisions to be made along the way).
  • Turn your solution into something tangible quickly and economically with simple drawings.
  • It helps you identify important parts of the story that you had not originally identified.

Helpful Tips

  • You don’t have to be an artist. The drawings don’t have to be perfect; they are there to help you communicate the story.
  • Represent the experience by focusing on a target user to avoid making the story too broad.
  • Run the A/B Test with storyboards with slightly different scenarios to compare which story variant works best.
